You can make a difference in a child’s life by becoming a Volunteer Advocate for an abused or neglected child through Lassen Family Services CASA Program.
Lassen Family Services CASA Program is looking for community members to advocate for children in the dependency court system and will offer training for new volunteers. Because of weather concerns an orientation which was originally scheduled for March 1st, will be postponed until March 8th, from 5:30 to 7:00p.m., at the Lassen Family Services office at 1306 Riverside Drive in Susanville.
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, are community volunteers that are trained to become an advocate, or voice, for a child who has been removed from their home because of abuse or neglect. CASAs are appointed by the family court judge to look after the best interests of the child or children to whom they are appointed.
CASAs meet with the child and others involved with the child’s care and make impartial recommendations to the Court regarding services and placement as well as voicing the needs and wishes of the child to the Court.
CASAs are required to pass a thorough background check and attend an initial 32-hours of training before being sworn in by the Lassen County Family Court judge. They commit to a minimum of 8-hours per month on their case.
