Wildfire Bulletin: Crews Responding to Vegetation Fire in South Susanville

FINAL UPDATE 4:24p.m. According to OES Chief Eric Ewing the spread of the fire was stopped at approximately 5 acres. Two hand crews are arriving shortly to take over mop-up operations.

Residents who were evacuated during the fire are beginning to be allowed back into their residences.

Riverside Drive has reopened to traffic but fire officials are still asking motorists to exercise caution in the area. Grove Street and Bonney Way are still closed to traffic at this time.

Chief Ewing confirmed that there has been no major damage reported so far on this fire.

Update 3:45p.m. Scanner traffic indicates that the fire has been knocked down.

Update 3:18p.m. According to information from Lassen OES Chief Eric Ewing firefighters are making good progress on the vegetation fire.

Currently Riverside Drive is closed from Rob’s Way west. The Lassen County Courthouse and several homes in the immediate area of the fire have been evacuated.

Grove Street and Bonney Way are both closed to traffic at this time.

Update 3:10p.m. Agencies responding include CalFire, NorCal BLM, Lassen National Forest, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Lassen County Office of Emergency Services, City of Susanville Fire Department, Susan River Fire District, Janesville Fire District and Susanville Police Department. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area of Riverside Drive near Grove Street as emergency vehicles make access to the vegetation fire.

Updated 3:02p.m. According to scanner traffic the fire is burning with a moderate rate of spread in grass that is three to five foot tall along the river walkway.

2:59p.m. Emergency personnel are responding to a reported vegetation fire burning south of Grove Street near the LMUD substation.

The fire is burning near the old SPI Mill property along the Susan River.
