The Local Area Revitalization Project Co-Op, in collaboration with the California Open Farm Passport program, will host the 2nd Annual Lassen County Grown Harvest Hootenanny on Saturday, October 3rd, from 2:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Wemple’s Pumpkin Patch, located at 450-525 Wemple Lane in Milford.
Billed as a celebration of Lassen County’s local food, local folks, and the land that feeds us, this family-friendly gathering is completely free to attend.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, visitors can wander through a local producer market, check out the farmer and agricultural resource fair, take host farm tours, and participate in demonstrations and educational workshops. There will also be plenty of activities for kids alongside live local music.
A farm-to-table dinner will be served at 5:30p.m., highlighting farm-to-fork pulled pork sandwiches and sides prepared by chef Dustin Kelly of Side Iron BBQ and the Sacred Heart Men’s Church group using ingredients produced by area farmers and ranchers. Lassen Ale Works will be on hand serving craft beer, and Thompson Peak Lavender will offer their signature lavender lemonade.
Proceeds from the celebration directly benefit the LARP Co-Op Youth Agriculture Scholarships Program, which supports local agribusinesses as well as agricultural training and education for local youth.
Because dinner tickets sold out last year, community members are encouraged to plan ahead. While a limited number of meals may be available the day of the event, tickets will open for advance purchase soon, and an email list is available on the event website for first notification.
