The California Highway Patrol is releasing the details surrounding a single-vehicle collision that occurred Friday afternoon near Roxie Peconom campground road on Highway 36, just east of Fredonyer Pass. The accident did major damage to a 2008 garbage truck while the driver, identified by CHP as 54-year old Chester resident Dale Biscotti, received minor injuries.
According to the CHP report Biscotti was traveling eastbound on SR-36, nearing the Roxie Peconom campground road when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the garbage truck to drift to the right and the right-side wheels dropped off of the pavement.
As the vehicle began to descend the embankment Biscotti turned to the left and managed to keep the truck from overturning down the steep embankment.
The vehicle returned to the roadway and it began to skid in counter clockwise rotation as it crossed both lanes, overturning on its right side.
The truck then overturned completely into the ditch on the north side of the highway, coming to rest on its wheels, while spilling its load of recycling.
Biscotti sustained only minor injuries and representatives from Waste Management responded to clean up the spilled recycling load.
