Lassen County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Julie Bustamante has issued the official Notice of General Election for Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026.
Local residents looking to serve their communities in school districts, community services districts, fire protection boards and utility districts have an opportunity to run for office.
Official declarations of candidacy for eligible candidates desiring to file for any of the elective offices listed below may be obtained from the office of the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters located in the Annex behind the Historical Courthouse at 220 South Lassen St., Suite 5, in Susanville.
The candidate filing period opened on July 13th, and declarations of candidacy must be filed no later than 5:00p.m. on August 7th.
If an incumbent for a specific office does not file by August 7th, eligible candidates—other than the incumbent—will have an extended filing deadline until 5:00p.m. on August 12th.
Offices Open for Nomination
Terms of office are designated as Full-Term (FT = 4 Years) or Short-Term (ST = 2 Years).
School District Governing Boards
Elementary School Districts
- Janesville Union Elementary School District: 1 Short-Term, 3 Full-Term
- Johnstonville Elementary School District: 3 Full-Term
- Ravendale-Termo Elementary School District: 2 Full-Term
- Richmond Elementary School District: 3 Full-Term
- Shaffer Elementary School District: 3 Full-Term
- Susanville School District: 1 Short-Term, 3 Full-Term
High School District
- Lassen Union High School District: 3 Full-Term

- Shasta County Board of Education: 2 Full-Term (2 Trustee Area 2) (Shared district; candidates must reside in designated Trustee Area)
Qualifications for School Board Members: Any person who is a resident of the school district, a registered voter, and not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office is eligible to be elected or appointed.
Qualifications for County Board of Education Members: Any registered voter residing within the specific trustee area is eligible, except the County Superintendent of Schools, any member of their staff, or any employee of a school district. Members must be elected by electors of that trustee area.

Qualifications for Special District Directors: Candidates must be qualified registered voters residing within the district boundaries and eligible under California law to hold civil office.

- Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD): 2 Full-Term (1 seat each for Wards 2 and 3)
- Herlong Public Utility District: 2 Short-Term, 3 Full-Term
Qualifications & Signature Requirements for Utility District Directors: Candidates must obtain qualified signatures on nomination papers in accordance with Public Utility Code (1% of registered voters or a minimum of 10, whichever is less, with a maximum of 20). Candidates must be registered voters residing within the district or ward for which they are running and are elected at large within the entire district.
Important Notice on Appointments
Appointments to each elective office will be made by the supervising authority as prescribed in Section 10515 of the California Elections Code in the event there are no candidates, or an insufficient number of candidates for an office, and a petition for an election is not filed by 5:00p.m. on August 12th.
