LMUD Presents: This Day in Susanville History – March 13, 1934

Announcement
March 13, 1934

Monday, April 3, Lassen Advocate will become “Daily Lassen Advocate,” reaching it readers every day, in the evening, except Sunday – Susanville’s first legitimate daily newspaper.
The change from weekly to daily, delayed a year by the distressing industrial conditions of early 1933, is made at this time in the faith that such service to the community, it business interests and those industries which such permanent mutual relationship in the exchange of products, will finds support on a basis of merit and good will.

Daily Lassen Advocate will carry telegraph news reports of national topics – the first ever supplied by a Susanville newspaper.

Noris C. Mills, a California newspaper man of wide experience recently connected with the Woodland Mail, will be the editor.

He is now in Susanville familiarizing himself with local conditions and organizing the elements necessary to meeting the requirements incident to a daily news service.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Price, well known to California publishers, have assumed the responsibility of the circulation department while the changes are being made from weekly to daily.

During the month of April present subscribers will all be served by the Daily. Beginning May 4, a weekly edition, “Weekly Advocate,” will be published to serve those in distant localities where daily distribution is not desired or is impractical.

More detailed announcement of this development will be made at an early date. All Advocate readers will be given the utmost consideration.

For nearly 70 years Lassen Advocate has served Susanville and Lassen County. The venture into the daily field is made after much deliberation which creates the conviction that its usefulness will be broadened and a greater contribution rendered in the drive toward local and national recovery.

Daily Lassen Advocate will dedicate itself to wholesome support of good government, mutual understanding in community affairs and the promotion of wholesome industrial development.
