Officer Richard Warner Promoted to Police Sergeant

Susanville Chief of Police Tom Downing has announced that officer Richard Warner, who for more than a decade has served on the city’s force, is being promoted from Detective to the position of Police Sergeant.

Sergeant Warner will fill the position left vacant by the promotion of Matt Wood to Police Lieutenant earlier this year.

“I have watched Sergeant Warner grow and mature as an officer over the past 11 years,” says Chief Downing, “and this promotion is a natural progression in his career.”

Warner began his law enforcement career with the Susanville Police Department in 2001 as a patrol officer. For the past four years he has served as a police detective in charge of investigating major crimes for the department.

The newly promoted Sergeant has also served as the department’s School Resource Officer, as a member of the SWAT team and as the Police Athletics League officer.

As a Field Training Officer Warner assists with the initial training phase of the force’s newly hired officers.

“I have high expectations for Richard and know he has the capability to meet those expectations,” said Downing, “He is a valuable member of the police department, and I look forward to his continued success as a first line supervisor.”
