A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. Sunday.
The National Weather Service Office in Reno is warning residents in our area to expect falling temperatures with moderate to heavy snow coming down from early Sunday morning to late Sunday afternoon.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service’s Reno office say a cold front will produce moderate to heavy snow beginning early Sunday.
Snowfall totals are predicted at 4 to 8 inches above 5000 feet with amounts up to 12 inches near the Sierra Buttes and Yuba Pass.
Below 5000 feet, here in the Honey Lake Valley, up to 4 inches are possible.
Snow levels begin at 5000 to 6000 feet early Sunday morning – lowering to valley floors Sunday afternoon.
Expect winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
The NWS also warns motorists to prepare for travel delays due to low visibility and snow covered roads for mountain passes and highways 36… 44… 49 and 89.
Even light snow accumulations on roads can lead to dangerous travel conditions. Drivers should exercise caution.
