A Saloon Keeper Vanquished

For some time past an enterprising saloon keeper of Susanville has operated a saloon on wheels at the front on the N. & C. railroad in Long Valley, and up to within a few weeks ago has done a thriving business despite the strenuous opposition of the railroad officials.
Finally, an order was issued informing the men that they would be discharged if they patronized the bar.
This iron-clad edict was ignored by a number, and the guillotine was accordingly operated with signal success.
The itinerant beer dispenser stayed by his work until Saturday when he capitulated and started for Susanville. The men, however, if reports be true, still gratify their appetite for liquor, as there are said to be four Chinese rum shops in full blast, the intoxicating Samchu, or Chinese gin, being their principal stock in trade.
