Photofeature: Susanville Solstice Celebration Gets Bigger Each Year

7:30a.m. on Monday, October 30th

Nearly 100 people gathered in uptown last Monday morning to witness a uniquely Susanville event – the annual ‘Susanville Solstice’ where the sunrise perfectly aligns with Main Street from the Elks Lodge down to Mesa Street.

Diamond View School Principal Dede Heimbigner brought 8th grade students with her to see the alignment and even Miss Lassen County and her court made an appearance.

Susanville’s famous outdoor-adventure photographer Randy Robbins opened up his gallery on Main Street early and provided donuts, and warmth, for the folks who came out to see nature’s display.

At precisely 7:30a.m. the sun came up, followed by a flurry of picture taking – selfies, group shots, drone shots… all with sunrise and Susanville’s Main Street in the background.

It was a very cool event.
