Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Red Flag Warning for dangerous fire conditions caused by low humidity and gusty winds this afternoon and evening.
The Red Flag Warning was issued for eastern Lassen County and Western Nevada, and will be in effect between 11:00a.m. and 11:00p.m.
Winds will be out of the west at 15 to 25mph with gusts up to 40mph.
The relative humidity will drop to as low as 9 percent for 4 to 10 hours.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
