Lassen County Surveyor Don Willis, with the Department of Planning and Building Services, has released the results of the monthly water level measurement for Eagle Lake, indicating a significant drop during July.
According to Willis, the measurements taken Monday morning show that the lake level dropped 0.53 feet, or approximately 6.36 inches, over the past month.
Current Elevations
The latest reading places the lake at an elevation of 5,093.87 feet, as measured at the low water ramp at Gallatin. According to Eagle Lake expert Val Aubrey this is the same level the lake was at in September of last year.
The monthly measurements provided by the County Surveyor’s office serve as a critical gauge for residents, recreationists, and environmental officials monitoring the health and accessibility of California’s second-largest natural lake. (photos by Don Willis)
