There’s a New Look at Honey Lake Feed
January 30, 1977
NEW SHOPS have been moving into The Honey Lake Feed warehouse at 540 Richmond Road in recent years. The building was constructed in 1917 just south of the Southern Pacific tracks as a flour mill and wholesale storage facility.
In 1975, Jim Bronson, Jr., the operator of Honey Lake Feed since 1972, with his wife, Jennifer began leasing idle space in the building to develop a small shopping complex.
Bronson said Diamond Saw Shop began business there in the spring of 1975 and Chris and Linn’s Wet Pet was started later that summer.
The Animal Ark and Fredonyer Station, a sign and novelty shop, have since begun operations. The Hair Camp, located just north of the tracks, opened its doors recently.
The Lassen Grain and Milling Co. under Fred Begin built and operated the flour mill from 1917 to the mid-1920’s. The building was constructed with lumber produced by The Diamond Mountain Lumber Company.
Jim E. Bronson, Sr. and Murray M. Doyle bought the property in 1930 from the bank of Lassen County. The partners replaced the flour mill with a feed mill that manufactured a complete feed line for ranchers, dairymen, and poultrymen living within a 100-mile radius.
Glenn Johnson and Merlyn Mulroney operated the business from 1952-62 and created the name Honey Lake Feed before Bronson and Doyle resumed ownership of the building. Since 1972, Jim Bronson, Jr. has operated the Honey Lake Feed warehouses at Richmond Road and Litchfield.
